This is a continuation of the old anime story of a goddess who fell in love with a mortal which is a version of an older Greek legend of a goddess who fell in love with a mortal which is a version of an even older Sumerian legend about a goddess who fell in love with a noble mortal. This would lead to great romance as well as great tragedy...as well as a legacy, leading all the way up to the present day. The gods get pissed off when one of their own messes with a human, so revenge is the order of the day. Now, demons from the underworld intend to subvert the human world, and the time has come for the twins Ai and Mai to take up the legacy.
